The Story: A Foundation of Precision
The Silver Fin represents the second, deeper stage of the craft: the shift from raw force to unwavering precision. Unlike the inaugural piece, this kitchen artifact bears no hammer marks. It is a testament to the quiet, focused labor where the steel is moved not by shock, but by steady, deliberate pressure. Its shape is intentionally fluid, mirroring the elegant lines of a river fish, designed to move quickly and effortlessly through kitchen prep. This knife embodies the principle: Precision is the ultimate act of respect.
Integrity of Materials & Form
- Blade Material: Reclaimed from an authentic, high-carbon steel hoof rasp. The material carries a history of honest work, perfect for holding a razor edge for continuous slicing and preparation in the homestead kitchen.
- Handle: Crafted from a repurposed hoof knife handle. This gives the handle a familiar, ergonomic curve, transforming a tool of necessity into an object of utility and comfort.
- The Mark: The residual rasp teeth and a smooth, deliberate polish offer a distinct, clean texture. The blade's seamless surface showcases the mastery required to refine rugged steel into an elegant tool.
The Value: The Kitchen Workhorse
This is the essential utility knife for the self-reliant kitchen—a workhorse that excels at detail work, slicing, and filleting. It is the physical manifestation of discipline, proving that chaos can be refined into clarity.
Owning the Silver Fin is owning a piece of the TS Homestead Nation's commitment to continuous improvement and a direct reminder that the most essential tools should also be the most precise.
Purpose: Precision kitchen utility, processing fish and game, detail work, and general slicing.
Note: Due to the high-carbon content, this blade will develop a unique patina over time—a sign of its continuous, honest use and a visual record of your cooking journey.
🧼 Care and Longevity Instructions
These Artifacts are forged from high-carbon steel—not stainless steel. High-carbon steel holds a superior, long-lasting edge and is far easier to sharpen, which is why we choose it for tools built for honest work.
However, this material requires care: The blade will rust if left wet. To ensure the longevity of your Artifact, always clean the blade immediately after use, dry it thoroughly, and never wash it in a dishwasher (which will quickly destroy the handle and the blade). When storing the knife for long periods, apply a light coat of food-grade oil (like mineral oil or olive oil) to the blade to protect it.
