The Story: A Foundation of Craft

The Streamline is the embodiment of refined utility, where the rugged history of the forge is channeled into sleek kitchen efficiency. Forged from an authentic, high-carbon Hoof Rasp Steel, this knife was intentionally manipulated to shed the bulk of its origins. Its overall shape is pointed and highly curved, giving it an almost aerodynamic appearance—a silent testament to the idea that true power is found in focused design. This Artifact asks: How quickly and smoothly can the work be done?

Integrity of Materials & Form

  • Blade Material: Reclaimed from a high-carbon steel hoof rasp (approx. $1\%$ carbon). This material delivers a razor-sharp edge and the robust feel of a tool that has already proven its worth, now tailored for modern kitchen precision.
  • Handle: Crafted from Native European Plum Wood. This unique wood is light red, dense, and has been purposefully lightly burned and distressed to create a worn, beautiful patina. The burnishing provides a secure grip while enhancing the wood's natural, crimson grain, giving the handle a warm, used aesthetic.
  • The Profile: The handle is quite thin, complementing the streamlined, low-friction blade geometry. The knife achieves a balance point that feels fast and light in the hand, perfect for long sessions of slicing and dicing.

The Value: More Than a Knife

This knife is the marriage of two ideals: the sustainability of reclamation and the mastery of precision. It is a tool built for continuous use, a perfect workhorse for the chef who values speed, control, and the tactile warmth of natural, repurposed wood. Owning The Streamline is owning a tool that carries history, yet performs with the agility of a modern specialist, proving that the roots of the homestead can yield a sophisticated refinement.

Purpose: Specialized kitchen utility, precision slicing, and fine chopping.

Note: Due to the high-carbon content, this blade will develop a unique patina over time—a visual journal of every meal prepared and a sign of its continuous, honest use.

🧼 Care and Longevity Instructions

These Artifacts are forged from high-carbon steel—not stainless steel. High-carbon steel holds a superior, long-lasting edge and is far easier to sharpen, which is why we choose it for tools built for honest work.

However, this material requires care: The blade will rust if left wet. To ensure the longevity of your Artifact, always clean the blade immediately after use, dry it thoroughly, and never wash it in a dishwasher (which will quickly destroy the handle and the blade). When storing the knife for long periods, apply a light coat of food-grade oil (like mineral oil or olive oil) to the blade to protect it.
